The Opening Shot

Greetings to all!

I am at T minus 5 weeks to leaving for my hike and vision quest in Scotland. I'm still collecting gear, needing an ultra light tent and my wind and water resistant wear. I still need to make venison jerky and finish raising funds. (Huge yard sale at the farm on July 30!) I continue to train 2-4 hours a day, 5-6 days a week. Thanks to Mom and Dad for my fab backpack and the marvelous Asolo boots. The boots have broken in beautifully. In addition, I continue to walk barefoot across heat and stone for an hour each day, with the hopes that I can complete at least part of the 500 miles barefoot. I should be buying my airline ticket this week and will have precise leave out and return dates soon.
I have mapped out the bulk of the journey, although I accept that change is inevitable. I will leave for my walk at New Castle on Tyne in North Umberland, England. I will be following Hadrian's Wall out to the coast, then turning north. I am planning ferry rides to Islay and Jura, possibly Mull as well, before heading north of Glasgow to Lake Lochmond National Park. I will hike on out past Fort William, catching another ferry to Skye. The remainder of time (if there is any- those of you who know me, know that I NEVER underestimate how long I need to accomplish a feat :) will take me into the Highlands.
